Hello Readers,
We were planning to publish our regular Friday’s Final 48 today—but sometimes, it’s important to pause, take a breath, and simply be grateful for where we are.
Today isn’t just about BBQs, fireworks, and family celebrations. It’s a moment to reflect on America—on the grit, sacrifice, and sheer tenacity it took to forge this nation. We’re reminded that freedom is never easy, never perfect, and never guaranteed. It’s something every generation must fight to preserve and pass on.
As we approach America’s 250th birthday, officially called the Semiquincentennial—our country is preparing for a milestone celebration. The America250 Commission is planning nationwide parades, festivals, reenactments, art installations, and educational programs throughout 2025 and 2026, all culminating in a historic celebration on July 4th, 2026. Every state will take part—including right here in Arizona.
We may be a young country, but we’ve never shied away from bold ideas.
Likewise, State 48 News is a new wave of journalism. Born from frustration with corporate media, we launched a scrappy, independent, Arizona publication with one mission: cover what others won’t. School boards. City councils. Small towns with big stories. The stuff that actually impacts your day-to-day life.
And don’t worry—the news will still be there tomorrow. Probably too much of it, if we’re being honest.
Coming up, we’ll take you inside what’s unfolding in Tempe, Chandler, Kingman, and the Liberty School Board. We’re also rolling out exclusive one-on-one interviews with candidates in races that matter to Arizona voters. The legislative session may be over, but local news never takes a break.
We can’t do this without you. If you value what we’re building, now’s the perfect time to support it. We can’t create this endeavor on love and good vibes - it takes money.
This weekend only, we’re offering 20% off subscriptions to fuel independent journalism in Arizona.
From all of us at State 48 News—Happy Independence Day. Stay safe, stay proud, and stay free.
🎉This also marks our 100th published report.
Thank you for being here, every step of the way.
With gratitude,
—The State 48 Team
